Is Fire Prevention Priority One in Your House?
Mad River Township is committed to providing Fire Prevention to all citizens and visitors within the township. Every year the department participates in Fire Prevention Week going around to all area schools and daycares. We at Mad River Township Fire & EMS Department believe Fire Prevention is a integral part to the services we provide to our citizens.
FIRE SAFETY TIPS: Location of smoke detectors
Type of Dwelling: ALL MUST BE CEILING MOUNTED
A. Single Family:
1. Basement - in the basement at the bottom of the stairs
2. 1st Floor - at the stairway that leads to the 2nd floor at least 6 ft from the kitchen area. Outside all sleeping areas (bedrooms) if applicable.
3. 2nd Floor - outside all sleeping areas (bedrooms)
4. Attic - If home has a fixed stairway that leads to the attic - at the stairway that leads to the attic level and in the attic. None are required for crawl spaces or pull-down attic stairs.
B. Two Family:
1. Basement - in the basement at the bottom of the stairs leading from the 1st floor apartment. If there is a floor-ceiling partition than another detector is required at the bottom of the stairs leading from the 2nd floor apartment.
2. 1st Floor - outside the sleeping areas (bedrooms).
3. 2nd Floor -Outside the sleeping areas (bedrooms). If the 2nd floor unit has its own rear entrance one is required at the ceiling before ascending the stairs to the 2nd level.
4. Attic - Same as single family dwelling.
