History of the Enon Fire Department

1924 - Today

The Mad River Township Fire Department was formed in 1924 by citizens of the township. The citizens purchased first piece of equipment, a 50 gallon chemical trailer. In 1949, the township purchased its first pumper (engine) from Central Fire Equipment. In that same year the trustees appointed the first fire chief, Chief Charles Tyler. The townships first fire station was located two doors west of the traffic light on the north side of Main Street. This station housed two fire engines until 1956, when the fire association purchased land on East Main Street where a new firehouse was built and dedicated in 1957. Since then, the firehouse has been located at the East Main Street location and was remodeled in 2002 with the old bays becoming office space and living quarters. When the new station was completed, a merger if the townships fire and EMS departs occurred, a monumental day for the township. Also in 2002, new apparatus bays were added to the West side of the property to house the departments emergency equipment. Today the department operates two medic units, two engines, a rescue engine, a brush truck and a utility vehicle. In addition to the vehicles the department also uses a HAZMAT trailer and a dive boat. The summer of 2005 a new heavy duty ambulance was placed into service. In 2007 the trustees approved the purchase of a 77' Quint, and the purchase of a new heavy duty medic unit.

The Enon Rescue Squad made their first run on February 9th, 1966 transporting a very ill child to Wright Patterson AFB hospital.
